Pakula Softease FangĀ® Range
Soft PU Heads, Softease Fang Insert, Lumo Eyes, UV2 Additives
Pakula Softease Fang lures are an update of our highly successful and innovative Softease lure range that was introduced in 1997 and ceased production in 2007. Developed by Peter Pakula, they were the first soft lure heads made from Polyurethane, the first soft lure heads to include inserts and the first soft lure heads to be hand made using a process developed by Peter Pakula that ensured that each lure was identical. The Softease also included the UV and other additives that helped make these lures one of the most famous ranges and brands in game fishing lure history.
The upgraded range which is now the Pakula Softease range featuring the highly distinctive fang insert has undergone several subtle changes apart from their obvious insert. Every lure in the range has undergone slight changes to head shape and skirt length to increase stability while increasing the action of the lures which will also carry heavier and longer leaders than any previous lures that carried the Pakula trade mark names.
The Softease Fang lure heads are now made from a tougher polyurethane than the previous range using colour tints that are more UV stable than the previous Softease range.
Peter Pakula was the first lure maker to realise the importance of UV, our trade mark LumoĀ® and other additives in game fishing lures, and was the first to use them. Over the years the development of the additives has continued, culminating in the Softease Fang Range which contain a mix of additives in all lure heads and in all skirts that certainly are the best in use today.
As we have proudly said in the past, "Do you want the best results? It's simple, use Pakula Lures, especially the Pakula Softease Fang Range!"
Extra Small Pakula Softease FangĀ®
Soft PU Head, Softease Fang Insert, Lumo Eyes, UV2 Additives
Pakula Tackle was the first to offer the first truly comprehensive range of Ultra Light Tackle game fishing lures with lures that are now legends such as the Mosquito, Cockroach, Zipper, Phantom etc.
Though you can run these on tackle as light as 4kg, they are by no means small fish lures, in fact Marlin over 150kg are not uncommon on these lures. It is important to note that as with all Pakula Lures the head shapes are continuously being modified. Indeed the only thing that has remained the same is their names and colours. The older lures can only be a reference to the increased performance of these evolving head shapes especially with this new range of Softease Fang Lures. The individual characteristics of each lure is as follows: |
Softease Fang Mosquitoā¢ also known as MossieĀ®
The Mosquito is a true all purpose lure that will run in any position at any trolling speed in any weather conditions you fish. Although it is a tiny lure it certainly kicks up quite a commotion in the water. The Mosquito has become one of our most successful lures particularly in the colour Stinger.

The Zipper is our long corner and shot gun special, which will work well no matter how far back you place it. Its straight, tight swimming action will continue in any sea conditions at any speed. This versatile little lure is a real favourite, especially in S.E. Queensland for little Black Marlin.
Softease Fang NeedyĀ® | ||||||||||
The Needy is virtually an extra small Beer Gut. It has a tight shallow action that fish find very easy to grab. It's a great lure that will be easy to position for the novice as it will work in any position.
Even when fishing heavy tackle it is worthwhile trolling a small lure in amongst the larger sizes, especially in the shot gun position. As you can see this range of lures gives you a selection of lures that will adequately meet your trolling requirements. Choose from our huge range of colour combinations and set up a truly special set of Extra Small Pakula lures, but beware big fish do like them, though they're small you may wish to run them on medium or even heavy tackle. That way you'll get to keep them a little longer! |
Small Pakula Softease FangĀ®
Soft PU Head, Softease Fang Insert, Lumo Eyes, UV2 Additives
The range of Small Pakula Lures include the totally updated version of the mighty little Cockroach, and further updates to this range known as the Softease Fang range introduced in 3rd Quarter 2010, one of the most productive lures to ever troll the seven seas. As with all our lures we have modified all the lures in this size to give you a comprehensive range of small lures for light tackle game fishing on tackle as light as 6kg. Do not underestimate their capabilities, they are just as useful trolling the wide canyons on heavy tackle as part of a spread of larger lures as they are on the light tackle grounds for Sailfish and smaller Marlin.
Apart from their inherent action and ease of use, these lures are the size of most small schooling baitfish and therefore more likely to match the hatch. To improve your odds each lure has it's own specific action to trigger feeding responses. Match to all this the choice of Pakula skirt colours and the new SOFTease material and all you have to do is find the fish! The individual characteristics of each lure is as follows |
Softease Fang CockroachĀ®
The "mighty" Cockroach works well in all trolling positions. Though primarily a short rigger lure since the introduction of the rest of this range which are better in the other trolling positions. The Cockroach has an aggressive action that hugs the water at all trolling speeds and will work fine in all weather conditions. This lure has gained an enormous reputation, quite simply because it works so well!
Softease Fang Mini SprocketĀ®
The Mini Sprocket is designed as a long rigger lure with a tight swimming action primarily for use in calm seas up to a light chop. The results on this lure have mirrored its larger brother the Lumo Sprocket which is our best tournament performer. Just make sure a Lumo stays on the long rigger.
Softease Fang Phantomā¢
The Phantom is a long corner, long rigger and shot gun special. Its straight, tight swimming action will continue in any conditions at any speed. Even when the fishing has shut down the Phantom still performs its spell catching lots of fish in waters where no other lures or even live baits are working.
Softease Fang StubbyĀ®
The Stuby is a small Beer Gut. It has a tight shallow action that fish find very easy to grab. It's a great lure that will be easy to position for the novice as it will work in any position.
This is a comprehensive range of lures. If you are on a budget, you can't afford not to select a pattern of lures from this range. One of each in the colours listed in our specification or pattern sheet will allow you to fish competitively anywhere from Tasmania to St Thomas for any game fish normally caught on trolling lures, especially Tuna and all species of Billfish. There is no other set of lures that are as versatile as the range of small sized Pakula Lures! |
Medium Pakula Softease FangĀ®
Soft PU Head, Softease Fang Insert, Lumo Eyes, UV2 Additives
Medium Pakula Lures are the ambassadors of our range, being the first to become established in new areas. It was the Medium Sprocket that Don of Kona Fishing Tackle, Hawaii, used first and had enough success to warrant stocking Pakula Lures in his shop.
It is our recommendation that if you are fishing somewhere new, you should be using this selection of lures. They are big enough to tempt the monsters of the sea small enough to be engulfed by the smaller ones as well. As the lures increase in size they become more specific in regards to their placement in the lure pattern. It is advisable to troll these and larger lures where they have been designed to run. The individual characteristics of each lure is as follows |
Softease Fang Mouseā¢ | ||||||||||
The Mouse is a short rigger lure that has no equal in this size. The most productive colours are Stripy, Fuzz and Frigate. The action is aggressive and will hug the water at all trolling speeds and will work fine in all weather conditions. This lure has maintained it's great reputation, quite simply because it works so well in this position!
Softease Fang Medium SprocketĀ®
The Medium Sprocket is a long rigger lure with a tight swimming action that will work in all conditions at any trolling speed. This family of lures has been responsible for a great many of the successes of Pakula lures in fact as Peter Pakula says: "always run one of the Sprocket family in Lumo colours, and never move it!"
Softease Fang Guruā¢ | ||||||||||
The Guru is a long corner, long rigger and shot gun special. Its straight, tight swimming action will continue in any sea conditions at any speed. As with all lures the Guru may blow out from time to time but as Pakula Lures it will not tumble or tangle, landing perfectly every time.
Softease Fang Medium Beer GutĀ®
The Medium Beer Gut is almost too easy to use. In any position, in any condition this lure just keeps on working with its straight, tight swimming action and narrow smoke trail. Though it's so easy to use it will produce the goods for experts as well as novices.
Large Pakula Softease FangĀ®
Soft PU Head, Softease Fang Insert, Lumo Eyes, UV2 Additives
These modified Pakula Lures would need their own catalogue to give you all the information on the great success that their predecessors have achieved. Even though there was nothing wrong with these lures before the upgrade and it was certainly a challenge to better them, particularly the flagship of our range the Lumo Sprocket.
These changes have made all the lures more aggressive and even more 'pattern compatible'. When these lures are run in their specified positions you'll find them very easy to run together, regardless of trolling speed or sea conditions. Even more than position specific, our statistics show that each lure is also best in a limited range of colours in specific positions. The individual characteristics of each lure is as follows: |
Softease Fang RatĀ® | ||||||||||
The Rat is the short rigger lure. The action is an aggressive swimming with a wide head shake and great sonic boom when it breathes. It will hug the water at all trolling speeds and will work fine in all weather conditions. This lure works for all larger game fish. The Rat is a Striped and Black Marlin favorite. The Frigate Rat is now a "standard lure" in St Thomas and the Bahamas.
Softease Fang SprocketĀ®
The Sprocket is the long rigger lure, particularly in the colours Lumo, Express or Dorado. If you are only ever going to take one piece of advice from us then let it be "Run the Lumo Sprocket on the long rigger, and leave it there!" Around half of all the successes on Pakula Lures are with this lure in this position. It may not catch fish for a while, but when it starts working nothing else will come close. Its tight swimming action works in all conditions at any trolling speed. It is totally irresistible.
Softease Fang Bagwanā¢
The Bagwan is a specific long corner lure. The action is tight, with a long bubble trail. It is our shallow diver, spending more time at the surface than our other shapes. Try it in the colour Blue Hawaii! The Bagwan is a very stable lure that maintains its action regardless of conditions and positioning.
Softease Fang Beer GutĀ®
The Beer Gut is almost too easy to use. In any position, in any condition this lure just keeps on working with its straight, tight swimming action and narrow smoke trail. Though it's so easy to use it will produce the goods for experts as well as novices.
Softease Fang Yankā¢ | ||||||||||
This is a remake of the Pakula Yank that was produced in the mid 1980's and was part of the original range of Pakula lures that were sold.
It's an increbily easy to run sliced head lure tweaked for choppy conditions and large swells that are often enountered in offshore fisheries. |
Softease Fang ChangaĀ®
Cpt Jack Ross of Hawaii showed the lures he made to Peter Pakula in 1988. On seeing this classical Locknut run on the Shotgun Peter Pakula commented that it was the best looking sliced head he'd seen and that he wouldn't bet agianst it. Cpt Ross gave Peter the rights to reproduce this lure which he did under the Pakula Pirate series in 1988-93.
We are very happy to include this version of this spectaular lure in the Pakula Softease range. |

Extra Large Pakula Softease FangĀ®
Soft PU Head, Softease Fang Insert, Lumo Eyes, UV2 Additives
These lures are the heavy tackle beasts. Though you may be able to run them on 24kg you're better off relegating them to 37 and 60kg. As with all our other lures these have increased significantly in size in the continual upgrading process. These were the first lures tested in the new shape and material combinations in 1997. Their improved performance and fish catching abilities gave us the confidence to convert the whole range to upgraded shapes in both SOFTease and Diamond Heads.
Although these lures have been designed as a set with specific positions, we recommend that for general heavy tackle trolling you use this sized lure on the short and long corners and use the Sprocket and Rat on the riggers. In certain situations using 60kg tackle. You may only troll two lures on the riggers, on these we recommend the Animal and Wombat. Compared to the smaller Pakula Lures these are all very aggressive lures with a very pronounced swimming and diving action. They are, as all Pakula Lures, finely balanced tools. The heavier and longer the leader, the more impeded the action of these lures will be. We recommend 400lb at a maximum of 18' for best results. The individual characteristics of each lure is as follows |
Softease Fang WombatĀ®
The Wombat is the short rigger lure. The action is an aggressive swimming with a very wide head shake and great splash when it breathes then diving quite deep carrying with it a huge smoke trail. It will hug the water at all trolling speeds and will work fine in all weather conditions
Softease Fang Smoking JoĀ®
The Smoking Jo, is our extra large long corner lure. This lure that evolved from a cross between the old Smoking Jo and Warlord. It has an impressive tight continuous action and long turbulent smoke trail. We have noticed that the statistics on this range of lures known as the Long Shots, have performed particularly well in in blue colour combinations. The exception to that is the Smoking Jo in the colour Kona which has become one of the best producing lure of all time for large Striped Marlin in New Zealand waters.
